The New York Mets are one big family.
That’s, at least, the idea of owner Steve Cohen: he wants a close group with people that have each others’ back through thick and thin.
He is your typical owner with a lot of involvement on roster decisions and the team, but one who shows he cares about the players and their lives.
He wants to cultivate that kind of environment and makes an effort to do so.

Some people say that if an owner gets too close with players, then it will be harder to trade them or let them go if the time comes.
Everyone involved needs to understand that baseball is a business: people who produce will get the most playing time and opportunities.
Those who don’t will likely be replaced by someone who will.
It’s as simple as that.
As long as there is transparency in what he does and his gestures are genuine, then there should be no issues.
It’s nice to see that everyone on the Mets is pulling for the same goal: winning the World Series.
To increase their chances, Cohen wants a tight group, and there is nothing wrong with that.
They are one of the best teams in the National League, but need better health, luck, and execution in October to reach their potential.
