New York Mets legend and broadcaster Keith Hernandez has been in the booth for SNY for years, providing expert analysis on the Mets and the entire game of baseball.

However, he is not currently under contract for 2023 and beyond, and the Mets have been trying to work out a deal for the veteran broadcaster and MLB legend.

But Mike Puma of the New York Post provided some good news on Thursday, revealing that while there is still much work to be done in order to hash out a new deal, the two sides are not far apart and have made progress on a multi- year deal.

This is good news for the Mets and their fans.

Mets fans have grown to love Hernandez over the years.

He began his legendary playing career with the St. Louis Cardinals, but was ultimately traded to New York not long after the Cards’ World Series run in 1982.

Hernandez won his second World Series ring in 1986 with the Mets in the series that included Bill Buckner’s fateful error and another moment of futility for the Boston Red Sox.

He retired as a player in 1990 with the Cleveland Indians, but later became a broadcaster for the Mets, serving as a color analyst alongside play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen.

Fortunately, it appears that there is progress in contract talks.

Nothing appears imminent yet, but Mets fans can certainly hope that the team legend will be back in the booth for SNY in 2023 and for several years to come.
