The baseball world learned some upsetting news back in January when it was announced that Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Cancer is a disease that affects so many, including those receiving treatment and their families.

But the entire fanbase of the White Sox and the MLB community has rallied behind the veteran closer in hopes that he can close out one of the toughest battles of his life.

On Twitter, the White Sox posted a screenshot of Hendriks’ most recent Instagram post, where he described his battle with the disease and included a cool picture of himself wearing a shirt that says, “Close out cancer.”

The shirt has a cool design too.

For the “e” and the first piece of the “r” in cancer, Hendriks’ famous No. 31 is used to signify his resilience and determination as he takes on one of the toughest opponents he has ever had to face.

Obviously, he’ll be out for the foreseeable future as he recovers, but he clearly feels the love and support from the White Sox fanbase and the entire baseball community.

And with the entire baseball world rallying around the right-hander, Hendriks will not be fighting this battle alone.

Despite this tough battle, Hendriks is determined to fight and not let it bring him down as he looks to overcome this terrible disease and soon return to the mound.

The 34-year-old has earned three All-Star selections and is a two-time recipient of the Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year Award.
