LeBron James will not have to undergo surgery

The Los Angeles Lakers have entered the final stretch of the season without LeBron James, who is dealing with a foot injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for at least two weeks. Despite the delicate nature of his absence, it’s not all bad news.

According to the journalist Bleacher ReportChris Haynesthe four-time MVP of the season will not require surgery, so his return at some point in the remainder of normal season is not ruled out. In fact, Haynes points out that LeBron could continue playing if absolutely necessary, but the coaching staff and player have decided not to take any more risks given the possibility of him suffering a major injury.

The plan to follow indicates to give him as much time as possible to deal with his rehabilitation with guarantees. Thus, the duration of this recovery process will be linked to the course of the team without him: the more the Lakers win, the more LeBron will rest.

For now, this Wednesday’s victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder —an encounter that Anthony Davis did not play either— allows the Angelenos to situate themselves in eleventh position in the Western Conference, just one game behind the New Orleans Pelicans, who currently mark the court of the tournament play-in.

The Lakers have a 6-10 record without LeBron on the court this season. A mark that they will have to improve in the next games if they want to stay alive on their way to the playoffs without putting the physical condition of their top star at greater risk. This Friday they will begin a streak of five consecutive games at home that may allow them to move up the table.
