Kennedy Nzechukwu Doing It One Step At A Time – USA Informing

UFC Vegas 65: UFC Apex; Las Vegas

No matter where one is in one’s MMA journey, one must master one thing early on. listening. and at FORTIS MMA Kennedy Nzechukwu is doing it quite well. The huge light heavyweight with an 83-inch reach was pushed in his first-main event early by Ion Cutelaba. And then he heeded the words of his corner from him and came out to the second round guns a blazing.

His takedown defense of 83% might dip a tad being taken down twice, but he didn’t panic and worked his way through them. It was a flying knee that was the beginning of the end for “The Hulk”. With Cutelaba back peddling, “The African Savage” came forward and let his hands fly, as he also landed another knee to boot along the fence.

Referee KEITH PETERSON jumped in at the right time saving Cutelaba at 1:02 of round two. It gave Nzechukwu back-to-back wins, after dropping two-in-a-row.

Kennedy Nzechukwu Is Doing It, So What’s Next

If Dana White feels the humble 30-year old is deserving, he should next get his first ranked opponent. It would be a big step up for the two-time Dana White Contender Series fighter. But the fact that he is such a slow starter might be the only trepidation.

They could lock him up with Khalil Rountree, who is on a three-fight win streak himself. And the savvy Rountree will push him without the threat of something really bad happening. Being this main event slot was via emergency situation with Derrick Lewis, it could also be his first legit main event on a fight night.

The fact he didn’t call anyone out, shows he’s still at the point of fighting anyone. Although; by the time all the smoke clears, with his size and power from him, it’s not a far leap to see him at heavyweight.
