It’s award season in MLB, and several publications and associations are handing out their recognitions to some of the best players in baseball.

For New York Yankees catcher Jose Trevino, the 2022 season was fantastic on the defensive aspect of the game.

He was a true difference-maker behind the plate, and because of that, he received his first Fielding Bible Award.

“Congratulations to @Yankees catcher Jose Trevino on winning his 1st Fielding Bible Award. Trevino was a pitch framer and excelled at other aspects of the position as well. Here are a few of his highlights from him, ”SIS Baseball tweeted, with a video of some of his best plays from him.

The Fielding Bible Award uses statistical analysts to recognize the best fielder in each league at each position.

John Dewan and Baseball Info Solutions conduct the annual selection process.

Traditionally, the Fielding Bible awards are announced before the Gold Gloves, a more conventional recognition for defensive players.

Trevino Was A Defensive Star For The Yankees In 2022

Players such as Carlos Correa, Paul Goldschmidt, Michael A. Taylor, and Aaron Judge won last year.

It’s the first time Trevino is recognized with the award, and it was very much deserved.

Trevino, in his first season with the Yankees, cemented his place as MLB’s premier pitch framer.

Nobody was as good as him in the art of stealing strikes for his pitchers.

He had 19.1 framing runs, leading the league, and also 21 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) behind the plate.

He was also great at calling games, communicating with his pitchers, throwing out runners at the bases, and blocking pitches in the dirt.

Overall, he was an asset for the Yanks with a mitt on his hand.
