The future appears bright for the St. Louis Cardinals, as top prospect Jordan Walker is finding a way to dominate whenever he is in the batter’s box.
Walker was the team’s top pick in the 2020 MLB Draft and has done nothing but hit at the minor-league level, which is why the Cardinals are so high on him this spring.
It may only be spring training so far, but Cardinals fans have to like what they’re seeing out of Walker thus far.
On Twitter, the Cardinals posted a list of some Grapefruit League stats through Sunday morning, all of which are categories where Walker leads.
Jordan Walker’s Grapefruit League ranks:
1st – 9 hits
1st – 21TB
1st – 6 XBH
1st – .500 AVG
1st – 1,167 SLG pic.twitter.com/yBwk1s576m— St. Louis Cardinals (@Cardinals) March 5, 2023
Walker, as of Sunday morning, is first in hits with nine thus far this spring.
He’s picked up six extra-base hits and logged 21 total bases.
He also owns a .500 batting average and a slugging percentage of 1.167.
These are some impressive numbers so far, which bodes well for Walker as he seeks to earn a spot on the Cardinals Opening Day roster.
The Cardinals did not add any extra pieces to their offense after signing Willson Contreras.
Clearly, they did not need to add another piece, as that impact bat was essentially waiting for them in the minor leagues.
Walker went deep again on Saturday as the Cardinals rallied from behind to beat the Washington Nationals by a final of 9-6.
Fans are certainly excited to see what Walker could bring to the table.
Juan Yepez and Nolan Gorman figure to be the choices as of now for the designated hitter spot, but Walker can’t be counted out as he continues to rake.
