On Wednesday, Jordan Walker forever etched his name in the history books when he extended his hit streak to 12 games, matching Philadelphia Athletics star Eddie Murphy for the most consecutive games with a hit for a player the age of 20 or younger to start his career. .
The St. Louis Cardinals top prospect picked up a base-hit in the top of the ninth inning of the series finale against the Colorado Rockies.
He ultimately scored on a hit by Paul Goldschmidt.
However, he almost forgot to collect the ball he hit to continue his streak and match Murphy.
It wasn’t until backup catcher Andrew Knizner reminded him to find it that he realized what he had to do.

Walker talked about his focus over this current stretch of games.
While he certainly has been locked in, there was a little something that distracted him during the game.
The 20-year-old said that he had a nosebleed towards the end of the game and that after dealing with it, he felt a little lightheaded and wasn’t terribly focused on retrieving the ball.
But that was when Knizner reminded him that he was forgetting something very important.
Fortunately, Walker now has the ball, as well as something to commemorate his historic accomplishment.
The Cardinals won the game by a 7-4 final and secured their first series win since Opening Weekend.
Walker will look to break Murphy’s record as the Cards return home for a four-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates and three more games with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
