Leandro Bolmaro’s stay in Salt Lake City has come to an end. The Utah Jazz have completed the termination of the Argentine international’s contract, according to journalists from The AthleticShams Charania and Tony Jones.
Bolmaro landed in Utah from the Timberwolves as part of the Rudy Gobert trade. However, his impact on the team has been minimal and he has completed much of the season in the Development League. And not even the departure of Mike Conley, Malik Beasley and Nickeil Alexander-Walker during the market close has translated into the arrival of minutes.
The Jazz had declined his team option for the 2023-24 season, leaving him headed for free agency. In fact, the journalist Salt Lake Tribune, Andy Larsen, shared earlier in the season that Bolmaro was not cut then because management saw him as a greater business asset than Jared Butler and Saben Lee, the last chosen to leave the roster. Thus, everything indicates that no franchise showed interest in him in the ‘trade deadline’.
Just a few days ago, Bolmaro had shared his desire to play and enjoy greater relevance, factors that he would prioritize in the decision of his new team. “It is a decision that I am going to make at the end of the season,” he declared then. “I’m going to see what’s best for me, I really want to play, so I’m going to prioritize that and see what opportunities come my way. At the moment I am focused on this season and what I can learn.”
Bolmaro will become an unrestricted free agent if no team claims him from the roster. ‘waivers’ in the next 48 hours. His tenure with the Jazz has been limited to 14 games, in which he averaged 4.9 minutes.
