Despite the talent drain experienced in the last two summers, the San Antonio Spurs still have some interesting piece on the market. One of the most obvious is Jakob Poeltl, who is out of contract at the end of the current season and has been involved in various transfer rumors for months. With the Texan franchise surprising their own strangers at this start, they have not been able to clear up the leaks about the center’s progress. After not reaching an agreement, both are looking for the best solution for their immediate future and San Antonio will find a way out before the market closes.
As Brian Windhorst points out in his podcast for ESPN, the Spurs are not willing to pay the contract he wants, so the Austrian is looking for a new team to ensure that extension. Poeltl currently earns a salary of 9.4 million dollars and would be asking for a raise of around 14. In this start, the center is averaging the best numbers of his career with 14.1 points, 3.7 assists and 11.4 rebounds .
Last summer the Chicago Bulls were already interested in him although San Antonio found it insufficient. The Spurs reportedly expected to receive at least two first-round picks for his departure. As February approaches, the price could be affected in two ways. Either the Spurs lower expectations so as not to let Poeltl leave in the summer for nothing, or some needy franchise ends up paying the established price. At the moment the recent interest of any team beyond those that emerged during last season and the off-season.
