Quin Snyder’s coaching staff in Atlanta has increased in numbers. According to information from the journalist of the The Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionLauren Williams, the Hawks have hired Steven Klei and Jeff Watkinson as assistants to the new Georgia franchise coach.
Klei will be part of the staff Snyder full-time, while Watkinson will assume a hybrid role that will see him participate in decision-making in the Atlanta front office as well. “He will also work in the front office in a player development role,” said the Hawks head coach. «He is in a kind of blurred line as far as what he can do on the track and in the offices. It’s something we’ve talked about, Landry. [Fields, el general manager] me too. We want this guy on that line of intersection between both facets.”
Both assistants are not unknown to Snyder as they already met during his stay as head coach of the Utah Jazz. In turn, Watkinson was the Hawks’ strength and conditioning coach in the past.
In addition to the two new additions, Snyder’s coaching staff is made up of Nate McMillan’s former assistants. According to Williams, most of these assistants still have at least a year left on their contracts, though it’s unclear what kind of changes Snyder might make to the staff this offseason.
