Golden State will not seek to empty its wage bill this summer

The new restrictions on teams that exceed the luxury tax limit have forced many franchises to rethink their salary structure to try to avoid such penalties. And the Warriors, as the organization that spends the most on salaries in the league, have had to consider making a transfer with which to start freeing up part of their salary mass. However, Anthony Slater, a journalist for The Athleticaffirms that the Californians have decided that they will not do such a thing, and that, since this new rule will not begin to be applied until the 24-25 season, it will be next year when they face the problem.

Many eyes had recently fallen on Jordan Poole, because, after his disappointing playoffs, it is inevitable to look askance at his contract of 128 million over four seasons that will come into effect this year. Recent rumors pointed out that the guard was the great candidate to leave if Golden State chose to empty its chap, but finally it seems that the franchise plans do not go this way. Slater notes, however, that this doesn’t mean the Warriors will rule out releasing Poole, but he says they would only do so if they believe the move improves the roster, not with salary restrictions in mind.

Part of the key to this decision has to do with Klay Thompson’s contract, which ends in 2024. Even if he continues in the team, nothing indicates that he will sign a figure similar to the 43 million dollars that he will receive this coming year. , which would allow San Francisco to reduce spending on that side. In addition, they are still pending the future of Draymond Green, and although it seems that the power forward will continue in the team, the conditions of his hypothetical new contract will also mark the roadmap for next summer.
