The New York Giants are a team back on the rise in the NFL, with head coach Brian Daboll breathing new life into this once-proud franchise.
Although the second half of the season left something to be desired for the Giants, New York’s 2022 campaign was more or less a success, with Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones proving their worth to the team.
However, things haven’t gone as Barkley planned in the offseason regarding securing his long-term future with the Giants, but owner John Mara claims he wants the star running back in New York for life.
John Mara wants Saquon Barkley to be a Giant for life. He told them that again recently.
But…
Negotiations have been reset and the offer that existed prior to the franchise tag is no longer on the table. (@dangrazianoESPN)https://t.co/OfqEDFuATq

Unfortunately for Barkley, contract talks with the team haven’t gone how they did for Jones.
The running back position isn’t valued in the same way it used to be, and players like Barkley are feeling the impact of that.
Last season, Barkley had his best year in New York since his rookie season in 2018.
Barkley rushed for 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns on 295 carries.
Along with having his best stats since his rookie year, he’s earned Pro Bowl honors for the second time in his career.
The question now is how much the Giants value Barkley and whether they are willing to pay him what he feels he deserves after an impressive 2023 campaign.
Barkley’s injuries in the past are a concern and may be making it difficult to get a long-term deal done.
However, when healthy, Barkley is an elite running back, and if the team wants to take him to the next level in 2023, he’ll need to be happy and on the field.
