The Los Angeles Dodgers got bad news this afternoon when it was announced that Gavin Lux, the team’s young shortstop, would be out for the entire 2023 season.
This is a huge blow for the Dodgers, especially after losing Trea Turner to the Philadelphia Phillies in free agency.
Lux was carted off the field during yesterday’s game against the San Diego Padres after sliding into third base.
Today, Lux commented on his injury and expressed his disappointment.
According to Dodgers insider Juan Toribio, the young shortstop is feeling the emotions right now.
Toribio revealed on Twitter that Lux was on the verge of tears when he spoke to the media.
#Dodgers Gavin Lux was trying to hold back tears as he talked about his injury. He said the hardest part is knowing he won’t be able to be on the field with his teammates.
“I think everybody dreams of being the shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers,” Lux said.

This is an unfortunate situation for the Dodgers and Lux.
Lux was certainly excited about the opportunity to inherit the starting shortstop job.
Needless to say, the 25-year-old is crushed by the latest news, and people all around the baseball world can’t help but feel sorry for him.
This year represented his chance to take the starting shortstop job.
While he’ll certainly get a chance in 2024, it certainly hurts him to miss out on the opportunity this year as a result of his injury.
Within the organization, the Dodgers have Miguel Rojas and Chris Taylor who could take over the position while Lux is out.
The team could also look to make a trade for a shortstop at the trade deadline.
For now, the Dodgers will be looking to piece things together, but it certainly is disappointing for Lux to miss the entire season.
