From 2016 to 2019, New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor was an All-Star level player.

It was then that he played in Cleveland.

In 2021, he was traded to the Mets, and while he’s still an excellent player, his numbers are down a bit from what he did in his prime.

He was one of the finalists to be named an All-Star starter at shortstop, but ended up losing to Orlando Arcia of the Atlanta Braves.

Mets pundit Anthony DiComo provided some details about the vote and his chances of regaining All-Star status.

“Francisco Lindor will not be a starter in the All-Star Game. He lost to Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia, and the vote was not close: 69% to 31%. Lindor remains a realistic candidate to make the team as a reserve, as are Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo,” DiComo tweeted.

Once one of the game’s most famous players, Lindor has seen his popularity wane quite a bit over the years.

It goes hand in hand with his performance: The last time his OPS was above .800 was in that 2019 season in Cleveland.

Make no mistake, Lindor is still a quality player; he’s just not as good as he used to be.

He is hitting .221/.303/.442 with 16 home runs and nine steals.

The totals are good, but the Mets need to see their rating stats improve to strengthen their chances of competing.

Right now, those chances don’t look good as the team is 36-45 and in fourth place in the NL East.

Lindor is capable of much, much more.

Can he return to his 2016-19 level?
