Everyone is giving their opinions on what the Chicago Bears need to do with their number one pick in 2023.

While fans, former NFL players, and analysts all have their own takes, a former NFL general manager is now letting people know his opinion.

This former general manager is Thomas Dimitroff.

Dimitroff was the Atlanta Falcons GM from 2008 to 2020.

He came to the team and took Matt Ryan third overall in the 2008 NFL Draft.

With him having experience in drafting players, he sat down for an interview to answer a question about the Bears’ draft position.

During his interview with Bears insider Josh Schrock, Dimitroff lays out his case for trading the number one pick.

While he says he’s “never moved back,” in the draft, having the number one pick allows for this luxury.

With the team having Justin Fields, the former Falcons general manager feels the best option is to trade back.

The move gives the team a chance to use the pick for an elite player who’s already established.

He feels a trade for a veteran player allows the Bears to know “what you are getting,” with a player.

While trading for draft capital can give them more young talent, trading for an elite player gives them an established player.

With the Bears having nearly $100 million in cap space, they can afford an elite veteran player.

Because of this, Dimitroff feels a trade for a veteran is better than trading for more picks.

With Ryan Poles entering his second year as the GM, the pressure is on him to make blockbuster moves.

Landing an elite veteran player with the number one pick will accomplish this feat.
