The New York Mets are looking to make another return to the playoffs this year.
Last season, the Mets won 101 games and were the NL’s first Wild Card team.
In the offseason, they added one of the best pitchers in baseball.
That was reigning AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander.
Unfortunately, Verlander is not healthy to start the season.
He has been put on the injured list due to muscle strain in the teres major muscle.
There is no timetable for Verlander’s return, but he sounded optimistic in his recent media session.
As shared by Deesha Thosar, Verlander is making positive steps in his recovery.

The Mets have gotten off to a slow start this season, and they could use Verlander back in the rotation.
But, over a long 162-game season, every Mets fan hopes Verlander takes it slow.
Would be amazing but hope it takes it slow so it doesn’t get re-aggravated later in the season

Most fans are hoping that Verlander can come back sometime during April.
He and Max Scherzer can provide a dominant one-two punch for the Mets.
I’d hope an April return is something that will happen… https://t.co/rFnQObcaTb

Verlander is 40 years old, yet he still seems to be at the peak of his powers.
But, with any aging player, injuries are more likely to occur.
Everyone hopes this is just a one-time thing and he can remain healthy the rest of the year.

The NL East is one of baseball’s toughest divisions and should remain that way all season.
This is excellent news. https://t.co/71VRcrt4zc

New York will need their best healthy players to be able to compete.
