Veteran slugger Evan Longoria found a new home this offseason with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The former Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Star had spent the past five seasons with the San Francisco Giants after reaching the big leagues with the Tampa Bay Rays.

But the 37-year-old now has a chance for a fresh start in Arizona.

The Diamondbacks are a young team with a strong core that looks prepared to make some strides in 2023 and potentially bounce back into contention for the first time since 2019.

Recently, Longoria caught up with MLB Network analysts Stephen Nelson and Yonder Alonso and discussed what drew him to the Diamondbacks.

Longoria first discussed the fact that he lives in Arizona during the offseason.

He says that is part of what drew him to the team.

The 37-year-old then discussed Arizona’s young core that features stars such as Corbin Carroll and Alek Thomas.

Longoria says that he believes these stars will be around for quite some time and will end up being building blocks for the team as they look to rise back into contention.

Longoria went on to say that he feels that he can be a positive influence, not just for the team’s future, but this season as well.

He also discussed his excitement to watch some of the young stars develop.

The veteran slugger acknowledged that the team is likely not going to be talked about extensively in terms of preseason predictions, but also said that the team doesn’t mind that and it’s clear that the organization strongly believes in the talent they have.
