On Friday, the New York Mets made a deal with the Los Angeles Angels in the middle of their game against the defending National League champion Philadelphia Phillies.

The Mets sent super utilityman Eduardo Escobar to the Halos in exchange for right-handed pitching prospects Landon Marceaux and Coleman Crow.

The Mets are 34-41 on the season and are quickly slipping in the standings.

The veteran Escobar has spent the past two seasons with the Mets.

The 34-year-old infielder is hitting .236 with four home runs and 16 RBI.

After the trade, Escobar posted a heartfelt farewell message to New York.

SNY posted the message on Twitter.

Escobar thanked the Mets organization, the City of New York, the fans, his coaches, and his teammates for his time with the team.

The 34-year-old came into the season as the starting third baseman for the Mets.

However, with Brett Baty emerging, the Mets no longer had a fit for the veteran infielder.

Escobar is a switch hitter who should bring some versatility to the Angels.

But it’s clear that he is grateful for the time he spent in New York.

He was a part of last year’s Mets team that won 101 games and reached the postseason for the first time since 2016.

This year hasn’t been the same for New York, but Escobar will now have a fresh start with the Halos, who own a record of 41-36 and sit seven games back of first place in the AL West, but sit just a half -game behind the New York Yankees for the third Wild Card spot.
