Dusty Baker Comments On Yordan Alvarez’s Status

Without a doubt, Yordan Alvarez is the best hitter and perhaps the most important player on the Houston Astros’ roster.

In fact, he is clearly a top-ten hitter in MLB, and some would say top-five.

Last season, he hit .306 with 95 runs scored, 37 homers, 97 RBI, and a cool 1.019 OPS.

Everybody gets worried when an injury is mentioned next to his name, though, and for good reason.

In Alvarez’s case, the reasons for worry are even larger considering his left hand hurts.

This is the same hand that affected him last season and forced him to miss some time.

Of course, after some treatment and rest, he proceeded to terrorize the Seattle Mariners in the Division Series and the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series with huge, clutch home runs.

But the hand is bothering him again, and he has been held off of some activities in the Astros’ camp.

“Yordan Alvarez is still not participating in any on-field drills with the Astros. Dusty Baker said today there is no update on his progress or prognosis for him,” Astros insider Chandler Rome tweeted.

In other words, Alvarez is not yet hitting.

The Astros are, in all likelihood, playing things safe with their prized slugger, and it’s probable that if it were an important game, he would be playing.

Since it’s still early in the spring, they are being extra cautious with the man that changed the course of their offseason.

Alvarez is still 25 years old and ready to terrorize opposing pitchers for years to come.

For now, though, he will be out of on-field drills for a few more days.
