The suspension that Draymond Green has received for attacking Domantas Sabonis could have a much longer journey than the one game suspension applied. So much so that some journalists are beginning to suggest that it will directly affect his future with the Golden State Warriors.
In information shared by the medium Fox SportsChris Boussard has suggested that Green could be short on time in the San Francisco organization if the team doesn’t reach the NBA Finals.
In a parallel article published this Thursday in ESPNRamona Shelburne stresses that the status and image of the power forward in the franchise have suffered and have been visibly damaged since the incident in October 2022 after punching Jordan Poole.
Thus, this new suspension —reminiscent of the one that cost him his participation in the fifth game of the 2016 Finals, which he ended up losing— could be the last straw for management. The Warriors have lost their first two games of the first-round series against the Sacramento Kings and will now face Game 3, at home, without Green, which will weaken the team on both sides of the court. And another loss would bring the reigning NBA champions to the brink of the abyss.
Green has another year left on his contract, but this is subject to a $27.5 million player option. A week ago, the player announced on his podcast his desire to play another four years before retiring. The interior stressed that he would like to continue in Golden State, but admitted that it is a decision that does not depend exclusively on him.
