Does Target Price Match Amazon? (Updated 2023)

It’s easy to buy a lot more than you had originally intended when shopping at Target.

By the time you get home, you might be feeling a bit of buyer’s remorse.

That feeling might intensify if you discover that the item you bought at Target is cheaper on Amazon.

When shopping at Target in the future, you might wonder if they’ll price match based on Amazon’s prices.

Does Target Price Match Amazon?

Yes, Target does price match Amazon.

However, there are a few exceptions and restrictions.

For one, the item that you want to price match has to come from Amazon, itself.

It can’t come from one of the third-party sellers using Amazon as their marketplace.

You can tell if the item is from Amazon by checking the product’s seller name.

It should indicate that the seller is Amazon.

Another thing to keep an eye on is whether the price is an Amazon Prime deal or not.

Target will not match the price of the product if it’s part of an Amazon Prime deal.

Certain holiday sales might also negate the price match.

Finally, you might not be able to receive a price match from Target if the price on Amazon is due to an error or part of a clearance or clear-out sale.

What Is Target’s Price Match Policy?

price match

Target has a price match policy in order to offer complete satisfaction to its customers.

Like any price match policy, there are exclusions and restrictions.

Target’s price match policy enables you to price match items that you bought both in the store and on Target.com.

There are a few benchmarks you must meet to qualify for Target’s price match.

Here are some of the qualifications to keep in mind to ensure you are eligible to have Target match another retailer’s price for your item.

1. 14-Day Purchase Window

If you want to receive a lower price on your item via Target’s price match policy, then you need to bring it to the store no later than 14 days after you purchased it.

Target prefers that you bring it back the same day as you bought it.

However, you have up to 14 days to prove the item is cheaper at a qualifying store.

In addition, the item in question has to be a qualifying Target product.

The window of opportunity doesn’t matter if the item doesn’t even qualify for a price match.

2.Identical Item

One of the most crucial qualifiers is that the item needs to match the other item exactly.

The item has to be identical.

That means it comes from the same brand.

You can’t price-match two items that look and operate the same but come from different brands.

The items also need to be the same size.

You can’t price-match two items that come from the same brand and are essentially the same if one is bigger or smaller than the other.

Weight is another factor that needs to be identical.

If for whatever reason one item weighs more than the other, then you can’t receive a price match on it.

The color also needs to be the same.

You also can’t price match an item if you have two of them and you’re looking to price match for a single item.

For example, if you buy two mixers, then you can’t price match a single mixer even if it’s exactly the same mixer.

You’d need to price-match two mixers.

Finally, the item needs to have the same model number as the other item.

If the two model numbers are the same, then that means the items are identical.

3. Item Is In Stock At A Competing Store

The item that you want to price match must also be in stock at the other store.

You can’t price-match an item that is not in stock.

The stocked item must also have a lower price on it at the time that you ask for a price match.

If the price changes before you’re able to price match it, then you cannot receive the price match.

You can also bring an ad to Target that shows the lowest price of the item that you want to price match.

What Retailers Does Target Price Match?

Target store

Target doesn’t price match from just any store.

It has a few select stores that does price match against.

There are also some exclusions and restrictions to the stores even if they do price match with them.

Some of the stores that Target will do a price match for are:

  • Amazon.com
  • apple.com
  • bestbuy.com
  • Chewy.com
  • costco.com
  • cvs.com
  • GameStop.com
  • HomeDepot.com
  • kohls.com
  • lowes.com
  • newegg.com
  • samsclub.com
  • walgreens.com
  • Walmart.com
  • wayfair.com

If you find an identical item at any of those stores that is currently in stock at a lower price, then Target will potentially price match it.

In most cases, Target will price match provided you aren’t trying to price match a third-party retailer.

Can You Use Coupons Or Discounts With Target’s Price Match Policy?

No, you cannot use Target’s price match service with items that you bought with a coupon or that were on a discount.

This is one of the exclusions that the policy states.

Essentially, if an item is on clearance, closeout, or undergoing a liquidation sale, then it does not qualify for a price match.

That also extends to items that have had a percentage or a certain amount discounted off their original price.

The item from the other retailer needs to have a lower price on it from the start.

Are There Any Exclusions Or Restrictions To Target’s Price Match Policy?

While Target tries to offer a fair service to its customers, it has to make a profit, too.

As such, it does have a few exclusions and restrictions on the items that you can price match.

Besides excluding clearance and discounted items, Target also excludes typographical errors from its price match service.

For example, if a printed ad from a competing company mistakenly types “$10” instead of “$100,” then Target won’t honor the price match.

It was an error on behalf of the competitor.

Target also excludes free items.

If you buy an item and receive one for free at a competing store, for example, Target will not price match to give you a free item.

The various services that Target provides also do not qualify for price matching.

Some of those services include:

  • Contract phone services
  • Optical services
  • Warranty services
  • Installation services
  • Clinic services
  • Pharmacy services

Even if one of their competitors has a lower price on an installation service, for example, Target won’t match the price.

Another big exclusion is items from third-party sellers or marketplace sellers.

This is especially popular on Amazon.

Many third-party sellers use Amazon as a means of selling their products.

Amazon is a marketplace.

Target only allows price matches on items produced directly by Amazon.

The same goes for other marketplaces.

If you buy an item that’s from a Target Plus Partner, then that also does not qualify for a price match.

Target Circle products and services are also not eligible for price match.

Alcohol is not always available for a price match.

This extends to products that contain alcohol.

While Target does price match certain items, it’s worth determining what they don’t price match to ensure you’re not wasting your time.
