Dodgers Manager Comments On Noah Syndergaard’s Progress

Upon making his MLB debut in 2015 with the New York Mets until 2019, Noah Syndergaard’s fastball averaged around 98 mph.

Since he is a big guy, he also created extension, so the perceived velocity was even higher.

In those years, he was very much capable of posting ERAs in the high-2.00s or the low-3.00s, with more than a strikeout per inning.

Tommy John surgery virtually erased his 2020 and 2021 campaigns, although he did pitch some innings in the latter.

In 2022, we got to see Syndergaard’s post-Tommy John version.

It was one that could be an effective third or fourth MLB starter, but his ERA was 3.94 in 134.2 innings with the Los Angeles Angels and the Philadelphia Phillies and his strikeout rate fell to 16.8 percent, down from 24.8 percent in his career.

His average fastball velocity was 94.5 mph, more than three ticks slower than it used to be pre-surgery.

The Los Angeles Dodgers took a chance on him and signed him to a one-year contract this offseason.

The early returns are promising when it comes to getting his velocity back.

#Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts said Noah Syndergaard looks stronger and they believe he’ll have an uptick in velocity this season. Bullpens have already come back with positive returns,” Dodgers insider Juan Toribio tweeted.

If there is a team capable of getting the last drop of velocity in Syndergaard’s arm, it’s the Dodgers.

They know that he has sky-high potential.

If “Thor” can regain some of that lost veil, he could be a number two starter in Los Angeles at a low cost.

That’s what everybody is shooting for.
