The Arizona Diamondbacks have only three playoff appearances in the last 20 years.
Since winning the World Series championship in 2001, they have reached the Championship Series only once, in 2007.
The last time they played October baseball was in 2017, when they were swept in the Division Series.
Fortunately, times are about to change, and the destiny of the franchise looks promising.
With a strong core of prospects and young players, the D-Backs could be playoff contenders as soon as 2023.
In fact, if the season ended today, Arizona would win the NL West division with a 6-4 record.

Of course, the season won’t end today, tomorrow, or in one month.
The season lasts six months and ends in early October.
It’s like that for a reason: the long calendar tests a team’s depth and quality because there are injuries, rough stretches, demotions, suspensions, and other situations that are difficult to plan.
Arizona is an up-and-coming force, but it’s likely still not quite at the level of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres.
Still, the Diamondbacks can still sneak into the postseason while finishing third in their division.
The Philadelphia Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays did it last year.
They will need to step up and improve even more, though, because their -3 run differential isn’t anything to write home about.
The D-Backs have the exciting Corbin Carroll and other contributors like Geraldo Perdomo, Josh Rojas, Christian Walker, Evan Longoria, Ketel Marte, and Gabriel Moreno; not to mention underrated ace Zac Gallen and other quality pitchers.
They also have a lot of talent in the minor leagues.
If most of them can perform a bit better than expectations, the D-Backs could make the playoffs this year.
