Derrick Jones Jr. plans to accept his player option

Chicago Bulls forward Derrick Jones Jr. plans to exercise his player option ahead of the 2023-24 season, the Chicago Bulls journalist has reported. NBC Sports ChicagoKC Johnson.

Jones signed a two-year, $6.5 million contract with the Bulls last summer. If he finally executes this option he will receive a guaranteed salary of 3.3 million dollars during the next course.

«As I told the coach [Billy Donovan] and everyone else, I’m under contract for two years,” Jones Jr. stated. “I didn’t sign for two years for no reason. So my idea is to be here those two years. I just have to sit down with my agent, talk to him and figure things out. But I don’t see why not. I don’t have any other plans yet.”

The 26-year-old player played 64 games this season with the Bulls jersey, in which he averaged 5.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 14.0 minutes. His relevance on his track has been less than the previous year, but even so he is satisfied with his career in Chicago.

“I love being with these guys,” Jones Jr. continued. “I know my role isn’t always what I’d like. I’ve been through some injuries that might have set me back a bit, but I feel like I’ve played well when I get minutes. I have done all I can do with the paper they gave me. Sometimes I need to be a bit more aggressive in attack. But defensively I do what I know how to do.”

“I love defending. That’s something I’ve learned in my career: defense wins a championship. Want to be All-Defensive some day. I feel like she could do it. I just need the right opportunity and amount of minutes.”
