Milwaukee Brewers starter Corbin Burnes has four years on his service time clock.
After the conclusion of the 2024 MLB season, he will hit the market unless he is extended.
Given recent bad blood between him and the Brewers over his arbitration salary this year, a long-term deal looks unlikely.
In addition to that, the pitcher just made a move that looks to be setting him up for a huge payday.

Burnes is a Cy Young award winner.
He took home the award in 2021, and should have won it in 2020, too.
In 2022, he posted a career-high 202 innings and had a 2.94 ERA.
In other words, he is a bonafide ace, with proven performance over the years.
He won’t be cheap, and for a mid-market team like the Brewers that probably doesn’t want to hand out a $200+ million contract – they can, but probably won’t want to – a trade is looking more and more likely.
The organization won’t immediately throw the 2023 season out the window, so they probably will give it at least until the All-Star break to see where they are at.
If they are contending, then they will keep their ace and try to return to the playoffs.
If they are out of it, they could explore a trade and take advantage of the fact the acquiring team would benefit for two postseason runs.
Let’s see what the future has in store for Burnes.
Well, it has money, that’s for sure, but who will he get it from remains a mystery.
