The Baltimore Orioles welcomed their newest young star to the big leagues on Monday: shortstop Jordan Westburg made his long-awaited debut.
He’s been posting great numbers at Triple-A since last season, in fact, so the move was long overdue.
The rookie went 1 for 4 with a run, an RBI and a walk, making him look good for at least one game.
The Orioles won overwhelmingly against the Cincinnati Reds, making it a perfect day for Westburg.
The infielder spoke about his MLB debut and was excited about the whole experience of playing in front of his new fans at Camden Yards.
Jordan Westburg on taking the field to #orioles for the first time: ‘I just wanted to look around, get the atmosphere, the surroundings, the people. This is something I’ve never been a part of before so it’s really special,’” Orioles insider Jake Rill tweeted.

Great things are expected from Westburg this year.
In 301 plate appearances at Triple-A Norfolk, the 2020 recruit hit .295/.372/.567 with 18 home runs, 57 runs scored, 54 RBIs and six stolen bases.
He has shown during his minor league career that he can do it all at the plate: hit for average, draw walks and hit for power.
He’s also a versatile defender who can play shortstop, second and third base, plus both corner outfielders in a pinch.
He’ll be an asset to the Orioles as long as he can translate the offensive numbers he had in Norfolk to the major leagues.
Only time will tell if he can do it, but his talent has never been in doubt.
