The Indianapolis Colts have been identified as likely to use a first-round pick on a quarterback in April’s NFL Draft.

Matt Ryan was brought in during the 2022 season but could not find his footing.

While the idea of drafting a rookie seems enticing to many fans, the Colts had to put a contingency plan in place.

Recently, the Colts signed Gardner Minshew to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.

After this signing, new Colts coach Shane Steichen said, “He’s coming in just to compete.”

At one time, Minshew was the talk of the NFL, given his wild antics, both on and off the field.

Now, Minshew will likely be in a backup role for whatever quarterback the Colts bring in.

However, as Steichen puts it, Minshew should be given a fair shake to compete.

At just 26 years old, Minshew is on his third team in five seasons.

Does Minshew have what it takes to be a long-term starter in the NFL?

Minshew has started 24 career games, amassing a record of 8-16.

However, when he was with Jacksonville, he threw 21 touchdowns and just six interceptions in the 14 games he appeared in during his rookie season.

He has shown talent when given the opportunity, although it hasn’t amounted to a winning record.

With any luck, joining this talented Colts roster could be a great reignition for Minshew’s career, especially if he has an opportunity to start.

The Colts have one of the league’s best offensive lines, and their offensive weapons are young but ready to play with the right quarterback at the helm.
