The Chicago Cubs have enjoyed top-notch production from one rather unexpected source: Christopher Morel.

Morel has taken over games since his call-up, and is hitting an incredible .367/.404/.980 with nine home runs in 12 games.

That’s an outstanding showcase of power from his part.

The last five of those home runs have come in consecutive games.

Perhaps the most eye-opening stat about Morel is that he has hit all five dingers from different spots in the lineup.

He became the first player to achieve the feat: homering in five straight games from five different positions in the lineup.

Morel is doing his best to dismiss the notion that lineup position will make a player better or worse.

The hitters perform, and they should be assigned an ideal spot in accordance to that performance.

Not only is Morel versatile regarding his placement in the lineup: he is also capable of defending several positions over the diamond.

Between last season and the current one, he has played second base, third base, shortstop, left field, center field, and right field.

He is young, athletic, and knows how to play several positions, even though he is not particularly good with the glove.

Despite his problems with strikeouts (he is running a 36.5 percent strikeout rate at the moment), Morel has the potential to be a very valuable contributor for the Cubs in 2023 and beyond.

He will slow down eventually, but it will be fascinating to see where his current hot streak takes his numbers at the end of the season.
