The San Francisco 49ers overcame adversity and beat the odds more often than not this season.
Of course, they were stacked with talent on both sides of the field, but losing their top two quarterbacks would’ve doomed any team’s season.
That wasn’t the case with Kyle Shanahan’s unit.
Nonetheless, with Brock Purdy also suffering an injury right in the middle of a win-or-go-home game, it wasn’t much of a surprise to see the Philadelphia Eagles beat them 31-7 in the NFC Championship Game.
Needless to say, that must’ve left a bad taste in the players’ mouths, which is why there may not be that much love between both teams now.
However, that doesn’t mean that Christian McCaffrey is ready to back the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl either, as he recently claimed that he actually hopes both teams lose.
That’s the kind of competitive fire one wants to hear from his team’s superstar player, that’s for sure.
The Niners have a championship-caliber team and were closer to the ultimate glory than most people realize, even though that all could be just wishful thinking at this point.
It’s been over two decades since the Niners last brought the Vince Lombardi trophy back to the Bay area, and patience is starting to run out in the fans, the organization, and even the players.
So, maybe CMC and company will put their money where their mouths are next season and come back stronger, so this time they don’t have to watch the big game from their couches.
