Carlos Beltran will be forever tied to the New York Mets.

He had an explosive start of his career with the Kansas City Royals and was traded to the Houston Astros in his last year of team control, in 2004.

That same year, he reached a free agency, and chose to sign a record deal with the Mets.

From 2005 to 2011, he was one of the best players in the National League and one of the best free agent signings in the history of the Mets.

Fans remember him for his home runs, stolen bases, and amazing catches in center field.

They also remember him for that strikeout looking in the ninth inning of Game 7 of the NL Championship Series in 2006.

After his playing days were over, he was appointed as the Mets’ manager in late 2019, but his participation in the 2017 sign-stealing scandal in Houston forced him and the Mets to go separate ways.

He didn’t earn another chance to manage, but he and the Mets appear destined to be together.

He was appointed as GM Billy Eppler’s assistant, starting in 2023.

He has now reported to his new job.

“Carlos Beltrán has reported to Mets camp to fill his duties as special assistant to GM Billy Eppler,” Mets insider Anthony DiComo tweeted.

He made a mistake and owned up to it.

It’s time to move on, and there is no better place to kickstart his baseball career off the field than in New York, with the Mets.

He has lots of baseball knowledge and can be an asset to Eppler and the team.

He just needed a shot.
