Late on Monday, the St. Louis Cardinals finalized an extension for longtime executive and current President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak.
Mozeliak was entering the final year of his contract, but it was expected by many around the organization that he would ultimately be extended.
The extension is for two years and will last through the 2025 season.
Mozeliak began his tenure in St. Louis as a scout in 1995 and served in that role through the 2007 season, before he was promoted to the position of general manager.
He then became the president of baseball operations in 2017.
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch was the first to report on the news, announcing Mozeliak’s contract extension on Twitter.

The Cardinals have enjoyed much success with Mozeliak at the helm.
Since he took over as general manager after the 2007 season, the Cardinals have not had a losing season.
He has led the team to the postseason in 10 of the last 14 years and even helped guide them to the World Series in 2011 and 2013, with the team winning a title in 2011.
The 54-year-old has also made some key trades and signings during his tenure in the Cardinals front office, having acquired players such as David Freese, Matt Holliday, Lance Berkman, John Lackey, Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, and Willson Contreras.
The Cardinals won 93 games in 2022 and secured their 13th National League Central division title and their fifth with Mozeliak at the helm.
He’ll look to continue his run of success in 2023 as the Cardinals begin their defense of their NL Central title.
