Former NFL MVP Cam Newton remains without a team deep into the free agency process, and the lack of interest from teams around the league seems to have humbled the veteran quarterback.
It appears that Newton has come to terms with the fact that his best days are behind him and that being a starter in the NFL may no longer be an option, with his phone not exactly ringing off the hook.
That said, the 33-year-old is willing to be a backup on a team moving forward, and he has already put together a giant list of players he wouldn’t mind being a backup for, with a few incoming rookies making the cut .
Update: Cam Newton says he’s willing to be a backup in the NFL.
Guys that he’s willing to backup include: Deshaun Watson, Sam Howell, Malik Willis, Fields, Tua, Josh, Hurts, Lamar, Rodgers, and 3 rookiespic.twitter.com/lNB5ZmTxqL

It’s safe to say at this point that quarterback jobs in the league have dried up, and Newton likely won’t get a call from a team until the 2023 campaign gets underway and a team needs a veteran of his caliber after an injury to a starter .
It’s interesting, to say the least, that Newton came up with a list of players he’d be willing to back up and or mentor because that likely means there’s zero interest out there for the one-time All-Pro quarterback.
Some have suggested that Newton try his luck in The Rock’s XFL, as the league would almost certainly jump at the prospect of bringing in a former NFL superstar.
However, Newton didn’t mention anything about a different league to continue his playing career, which means that’s likely out of the question unless he genuinely believes his NFL days are over.
