The St. Louis Cardinals were largely carried on Sunday by none other than designated hitter Nolan Gorman.

Gorman, 22, hit 16 home runs in his rookie season, but ultimately struggled to remain consistent and lost playing time toward the end of the season as a result.

Fortunately, he appears to have rediscovered his stroke.

He led the way with two home runs and six RBI against Chris Bassitt and the Toronto Blue Jays as the Cardinals rolled to a 9-4 win.

Gorman seems to be back on track, but this isn’t any surprise for him or his Cardinals teammate Brendan Donovan.

After the Cardinals win, Donovan commented on Gorman’s resurgence and stated that he believes the young slugger has taken the next step toward becoming a superstar.

These are some strong words by Donovan.

Clearly, he likes what he’s seeing and believes that Gorman is ready to take the next step.

Gorman was drafted in 2018 in the first round and quickly rose through the ranks of the team’s minor league system.

Now, he has found a spot on the big-league roster and is turning heads, including that of Donovan.

Clearly, Donovan feels very strongly about how far Gorman has come since he reached the big leagues.

The slugger has already proven to be more consistent at the plate, and Donovan is impressed by the work his teammate put in during the offseason to secure his spot on the roster.

The Cardinals ultimately won two out of three against the Blue Jays and now own a 2-1 record.
