Angels Insider Reveals Latest Brandon Drury Update

Between the Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres, infielder Brandon Drury had a career season in 2022.

He hit .263 with 87 runs scored, 28 home runs, 87 RBI, and a strong .812 OPS.

Those numbers earned him a nice two-year, $17 million deal from the Los Angeles Angels.

There, he will be expected to provide length to a lineup that has the potential to be great.

He has been out of action in recent games, though.

He fouled a ball off his calf during Friday’s Cactus League game against the Kansas City Royals.

Normally, a precautionary absence doesn’t extend beyond a day or two.

Angels manager Phil Nevin, however, insists that’s exactly the case here: there is nothing to worry about Drury and its availability for Opening Day.

“Yeah, Phil Nevin said he’s just being particularly cautious with Drury — who has expressed a desire to play the last few days. If it was the regular season, he’d be playing,” Angels insider Sam Blum tweeted.

There you have it.

Spring training is the right time to be cautious and give players an extra few days to properly heal from certain injuries.

In the regular season, they often play through them, which can often results in undesired outcomes.

Drury appears to be fine, and there is nothing to worry about for Angels fans.

If they should be worrying about anything it’s his ability to repeat last season’s performance.

It was the highest OPS output of his career, so he had never hit like this.

He does have the talent to support that performance, but he will need to be at his best to have a chance to replicate 2022’s numbers.

That’s what the Angels are shooting for here.
