The Philadelphia Phillies are the reigning National League champions.

They have high expectations to get back to the World Series in 2023.

In the offseason, the Phillies added All-Star shortstop Trea Turner.

Yet the Phillies lost first baseman Rhys Hoskins to a torn ACL, and Bryce Harper will not be back until the end of May at the earliest.

So, some other Phillies will have to step up in the absence of their big batters.

One of the Phillies players that will be counted on is third baseman Alec Bohm.

He started his season perfectly by hitting a home run in his first at-bat.

Bohm broke a scoreless tie by hitting a two-run blast off Rangers starter Jacob deGrom.

Bohm has always been a solid hitter, but many people expect him to break out this year.

It is good to see him showing off some power in the season’s first game.

His career-high in home runs is 13, but he should be able to surpass that this season.

The Phillies should no doubt be a playoff team again in 2023.

They are far too talented and now have plenty of postseason experience after last year.

If their pitching can hold up, the Phillies will have a great season.

But starter Aaron Nola was not impressive in his first start (3.2 innings, five earned runs).

Either way, there are still 161 more games in the season and the Phillies are hoping to win a lot of them.
