Adam Wainwright has certainly had better weeks.
After a slump in London in which he allowed seven runs in three innings, he took the mound Thursday against the defending World Series champion Houston Astros.
Unfortunately, his earlier start was even worse as the St. Louis Cardinals fell into an early 6-0 hole and never quite recovered.
Earlier in the week, Wainwright briefly deactivated his Twitter account due to negative messages sent to him by Cardinals fans.
However, the vast majority of the fan base has come out in support of the right-hander.
Taking to Twitter, the 41-year-old thanked Cardinals fans for their support over the past few days.

After Wainwright departed Thursday, fans at Busch Stadium gave him a standing ovation despite his difficult start.
The right-hander was even on the verge of tears when he left the game.
Cameras even caught him in the dugout having a heart-to-heart with manager Oli Marmol, who expressed confidence in the two-time World Series champion and told him he wouldn’t give up on him.
It’s certainly been a tough week for Wainwright.
He now owns a 7.45 ERA on the season after making significant progress prior to his London start.
On June 17 against the New York Mets, he pitched his first quality start since last August, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing three runs.
But the vast majority of Cardinals fans feel sorry for him as he struggles through his final season in the MLB.
Fortunately, Wainwright acknowledged that he is still loved in St. Louis and always will be.
