Team USA won the World Baseball Classic title back in 2017 and rode their momentum back to the championship game six years later.
However this time, it did not end with a title, as the United States fell just short against Team Japan.
But Team USA’s run was certainly memorable and was a special experience for everyone involved, especially Adam Wainwright.
The veteran right-hander is entering the final season of his storied MLB career, which he has spent the entirety of with the St. Louis Cardinals.
After the game, the 41-year-old and two-time World Series champion received a special gift from MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred in the form of a silver medal.

Wainwright had long wanted to pitch in the World Baseball Classic and represent Team USA.
He had the chance to compete on the 2004 Olympic squad, but was ultimately sent home.
This time, Wainwright couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
And the three-time All-Star pitched admirably in the Classic, delivering two four-inning, one-run outings and receiving wins in each of them.
The 41-year-old is no stranger to receiving such honors, having been a part of three World Series teams.
But on Tuesday, he got to add yet another important honor to his collection of accomplishments.
The right-hander has won 20 games three times during his illustrious career and has been one of St. Louis’ most reliable starters, especially in the postseason.
And so, the environment of the World Baseball Classic was nothing new.
But despite Team USA’s loss, Wainwright still received an important honor from Manfred and one that he’ll remember for the rest of his life.
