Adam Wainwright stole the show on Thursday at Busch Stadium when he sang the national anthem before the St. Louis Cardinals’ home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Originally scheduled to be the Opening Day starter, Wainwright began the season on the injured list due to a groin injury he suffered during the World Baseball Classic.

But just a few days into the 2023 season, the veteran right-hander is already making strides and has begun his comeback journey.

On Monday, the 41-year-old threw a light bullpen session.

Afterwards, Wainwright commented on his session and how he feels about things as he continues his rehab.

Wainwright went as far as to say that the ball is coming out of his arm even better than it had before the injury.

The two-time World Series champion said that some of the things that are taking place in rehab are things that he felt were necessary for him to do in order to regain strength in his leg, regardless of the injury.

Wainwright also said that it’s too early to be talking about a return to the mound and that he will likely need a few more bullpen sessions before he can start thinking about pitching.

This is good news for the Cardinals, who entered the 2023 season with a lot of question marks surrounding their starting rotation.

Having Wainwright back will be a big boost for a team that has banked a lot on their current group of starting pitchers.
