When the 2022 MLB postseason ended for the New York Yankees, many fingers were pointing at Gleyber Torres and his performance in the second half and the playoffs.

Much like most of the team, Torres struggled after July, and that really complicated things for the Bombers.

As a result, many fans were asking for the team to trade the young second baseman.

In reality, he is one of the few Yankees hitters with trade value and appeal to other teams.

He is 26, he just hit 24 home runs, and plays good defense at the keystone.

In fact, the Yankees were reportedly close to trading him for pitcher Pablo Lopez before the deadline last year.

In the early days of the offseason, he was a legitimate trade piece for the Yanks, and teams were asking for him in discussions.

Those days appeared to have passed, though, as manager Aaron Boone told fans this week that Torres is going to be his starting second baseman.

The player, at one point, felt the uneasiness of the situation.

“Gleyber Torres: ‘The last time I checked social media [in November], there were too many rumors, too many things. So I’m just enjoying my little baby, preparing myself, coming here and doing my thing,’” Yankees insider Bryan Hoch tweeted.

He also said that he didn’t check social media after that, opting for some peace of mind.

It’s not an easy situation to handle, knowing there are high odds of having to relocate and move your family if third parties decide so.

But here we are in spring training, and Torres is ready to prove that he has a future on the Yankees after all.
