Dodgers Showed Interest In Acquiring Another Ace This Year

The 2022 MLB trade deadline was full of emotions.

Josh Hader, Juan Soto, Frankie Montas, Luis Castillo, and other high-profile players switched teams at or around deadline day.

One of the most notable names mentioned around those days, however, was one who wasn’t actually traded: Miami Marlins pitcher Pablo Lopez.

After trading Jordan Montgomery to the St. Louis Cardinals, the New York Yankees apparently had a deal in place to bring in Lopez in exchange for Gleyber Torres and prospects, but everything fell through.

An MLB insider is now reporting that the Los Angeles Dodgers were actually interested in acquiring Lopez, too.

“Dodgers showed interest in trading for Pablo López at the deadline this year, as well,” Fabian Ardaya tweeted.

Identifying a need for impact hitters, the Marlins were open to trading Lopez, a really solid starting pitcher, for offensive help at the deadline.

The Marlins Are Still Looking For Hitters

The situation hasn’t changed much: as the offseason starts, the Marlins are still looking to fix a mediocre offense and are willing to use their pitching depth to do it.

They have several talented pitchers, such as Sandy Alcantara, Eury Perez, Max Meyer, Edward Cabrera, Elieser Hernandez, Trevor Rogers, and Lopez.

They are not trading a future Cy Young pitcher (Alcantara), and since Lopez only has two remaining years of team control, he seems to be the man they will use to bring in a good hitter or two.

The Dodgers could lose several starters to free agency, so they may be interested in re-visiting trade talks for Lopez.

They have a good farm and several MLB-ready young hitters that may interest the Marlins, such as Gavin Lux, Diego Cartaya, Miguel Vargas, Edwin Rios, and more.

It’s actually a match made in heaven.
