The World Baseball Classic is a fascinating competition.
Every sport has its World Cup, and it only makes sense that MLB organized a competition in a similar mold.
The first WBC was played in 2006, and subsequent editions have been held in 2009, 2013, and 2017.
On March 8, the 2023 edition of the tournament (and the fifth one in total) will start with a record 20 teams and more major leaguers than ever before.
The fact that there have been four editions prior to this one means that there are records and unforgettable moments to remember.
One of the most respected records about the Classic is players with the most participations to this point.
Two players have been in the previous four events: Venezuelan first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera and Mexican left-handed pitcher Oliver Perez.
Both of them have a chance to make history in 2023.

Since Cabrera is the captain of the Venezuelan team, it goes without saying that he will, at least, see one plate appearance to become the new recordman.
Perez, on the other hand, was not included on the 30-man roster for the competition, but is a reserve arm who could make an appearance in the second round should his team advance.
Both have built themselves incredible MLB careers: Perez has pitched in the majors for 20 years and Cabrera will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer five years after hanging his cleats, likely sometime in 2028 or 2029.
We are about to witness history from two respected veterans.
