Former Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly has found a new home.

This morning, the Toronto Blue Jays hired the 61-year-old as their new bench coach.

Mattingly became the winningest manager in Marlins history, recording 443 victories and taking home the National League Manager of the Year Award in 2020.

After firing Charlie Montoyo, the Blue Jays promoted then-bench coach John Schneider to the managerial role.

With Schneider being named the full-time manager, Toronto began its search for a new bench coach.

On Twitter, the Blue Jays announced the news of the Mattingly hire, posting a photoshopped picture of the former Marlins manager in Blue Jays gear and welcoming him to the organization.

Mattingly’s Legacy

Prior to his time in Miami, Mattingly managed the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2011-2015.

He had been promoted to the managerial role after the departure of Joe Torre.

Mattingly had previously served as the Dodgers hitting coach.

The 61-year-old also spent time as the hitting coach for the New York Yankees, serving in that role until being promoted to the bench coach position in 2007.

Mattingly also played 14 seasons in Major League Baseball, all with the Yankees.

The former first baseman was drafted by New York in 1979.

He earned six All-Star selections, three Silver Slugger Awards, a batting title, nine Gold Gloves, and an American League MVP Award in 1985.

Toronto won 92 games during the regular season under Montoyo and Schneider, earning the top AL Wild Card spot but falling short in the Wild Card Series against the Seattle Mariners.
