In the offices of Houston they have gotten down to work to find a replacement for Stephen Silas as head coach of the Rockets. According to various reports by journalists Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski, at least six coaches have already been contacted by Houston management to set up a meeting.
In this first list of candidates are Ime Udoka, Frank Vogel, James Borrego, Kenny Atkinson, Adrian Griffin and Kevin Young, who will be interviewed by the Rockets in the near future.
Udoka, Vogel and Borrego are currently without formal jobs after concluding their respective stints as ‘head coach’ in Boston, Los Angeles and Charlotte, respectively. For his part, Atkinson works as an assistant coach at the Golden State Warriors, the same role as Griffin, in Toronto, and Young, in Phoenix.
Notably, Udoka’s name has also recently been linked to that of the Detroit Pistons, who have displaced Dwane Casey to a front-office job. For his part, Atkinson was selected by the Hornets to take over the bench last summer before backing out just a week after accepting the job.
Adds Charania that the Rockets also plan to meet with Nick Nurse if he does not continue to lead the Toronto Raptors.
