Scouting Notes
- Streaky player, with plenty of streaks of high-end dominance, but a few streaks of really poor play.
- Lateral mobility is unreal, especially given his size.
- Average-sized and average-power rushers didn’t stand a chance against him. He is too big to get around, and too massive to get through.
- Surprisingly not overly powerful, despite its size. He got tossed around a few times.
- Very limited due to his physical stature, but made the most of it.
- Needs to learn to better redirect his weight to optimize his hand checks and leg-drive.
- Poor vertical mobility affected his run support, as he couldn’t get to the spot consistently.
Short Summary
Dawand Jones is known as just a huge tackle, but he played much better than that. The first few plays of 2022 didn’t go very well, and that painted a pretty horrible prospect picture. However, since then, he’s done nothing but impress. He showed so much more than just being big, he was dominant and pretty technically sound. Sure, he had a few too many penalties, but he was generally pretty clean and masterful.
His size and relative movement skills are drool-worthy, and his great tape made me fall in love with him as a prospect. His limited athleticism from him may hinder his NFL production from him, but I’m willing to bet on the talent since the ceiling is so higher.
