The St. Louis Cardinals got some bad news on Thursday when it was announced that Adam Wainwright had suffered a groin injury and would begin the 2023 season on the injured list.

The 41-year-old was scheduled to start Opening Day for the Cardinals for the final time in his career.

However, those plans have been foiled.

The two-time World Series champion signed a one-year, $17.5 million contract to return to St. Louis after the 2022 season.

In light of the news, several Cardinals fans have expressed their frustration with the organization for re-signing him on Twitter.

The veteran right-hander caught wind of this and had the perfect response to a few trolls wishing he had retired along with Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina.

That’s one way to handle some hecklers.

Wainwright returned after a bad September caused him to lose his spot in the postseason rotation, believing he still had something left to prove.

His first two spring training starts weren’t great, but he pitched admirably in the World Baseball Classic, delivering two four-inning, one-run performances for Team USA as they reached the championship game.

His velocity had increased after being noticeably down in his first two spring starts.

Fortunately for him and the Cardinals, the injury is not arm-related.

Still, there were a couple of fans who didn’t think twice before posting on Twitter and had no concept of the idea that Wainwright could see their responses.

Fortunately, the veteran right-hander put these fans back in their place after they had posted their harsh messages.
