Omer Yurtseven’s absence is going to be much longer than initially anticipated. If a week ago there was talk that he could return to the tracks shortly, now everything indicates that his loss will last for three months.
The injury that has led to this situation is the one already known from the preseason. The interior player injured his ankle and now it is almost certain that he will have to undergo surgery to restore his joint. It is this intervention that makes its debut in the current course and is postponed until mid-February 2023; reports Anthony Chiang of Miami Herald.
This news is a hard setback both personally and collectively. Yurtseven, who averaged 5.3 points and 5.3 rebounds last year, was called to be Bam Adebayo’s backup from the bench. Without him being able to perform such a function, Miami is suffering too much when his center holder sits on the bench; so much so that with him on the court they outperform their rivals by 6.1 points per 100 possessions, while when he is away they remain at -11.4.
Speaking on a personal note, Yurtseven is in the final year of his contract, so a long period of inactivity could be very detrimental going into next summer, when he will be a restricted free agent.
