The Oakland Athletics are entering the 2023 season knowing that preseason projections will not be terribly kind to them.
However, that doesn’t appear to have them terminated.
The team did make a few interesting moves this offseason, adding pitchers Trevor May, Shintaro Fujinami, and Drew Rucinski, while also adding Jesus Aguilar, Manny Pina, Jace Peterson, Aledmys Diaz, and JJ Bleday to bolster their offense.
But for top catching prospect Shea Langeliers, this season presents a unique challenge.
With Sean Murphy gone, the starting catching job is his for the taking.
The 25-year-old got a chance to catch up with MLB Network analysts Dan Plesac and Greg Amsinger to discuss their expectations for the 2023 season.
“We’re going to play the best baseball we can and we’re going to be the best baseball players we can, so we’re just excited about this year.”

Langeliers first discussed his preparations for the new season.
He sees this year as a unique opportunity to establish himself and become a centerpiece for the A’s both behind the plate and in the middle of the lineup.
Langeliers also says he feels a little bit more comfortable in the Majors and wearing the A’s uniform after having made his MLB debut last season and having time to experience the everyday life of a player.
He stressed the importance of getting to know everybody on the team, especially the pitching staff and said that once he’s on the same page as the pitchers, everybody is ready to go for the season.
Finally, Langeliers discussed his expectations for the A’s, saying that he doesn’t pay attention to preseason predictions or offseason moves that their division rivals made.
He stated that the A’s are entering the season hoping to play the best possible baseball that they can and that they are excited for the challenge.
