To the surprise of many, the Houston Astros did not renew the contract of General Manager James Click after having won the World Series last fall.

Click had expressed his disappointment in the Astros for not offering him a multi-year deal.

As a result, he was not brought back and was subsequently replaced by Dana Brown.

But Click’s career as a front office executive is far from over.

Fortunately, the Toronto Blue Jays had an opening in their front office.

This morning, Blue Jays analyst Keegan Matheson reported that the team had hired Click to become their new vice president of baseball strategy.

Matheson reported the news on Twitter.

Prior to his time with the Astros, Click worked in the Tampa Bay Rays organization.

He took over as the team’s general manager after the firing of Jeff Luhnow, who had allegedly played a key role in the Astros sign-stealing scandal in 2017.

The Astros reached the postseason in each of Click’s three seasons as general manager, making it to the World Series in back-to-back years.

And so, the Blue Jays will gain a key voice in their front office, one with great winning experience and the ability to put together a World Series-caliber roster.

Toronto has some solid pieces already with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Matt Chapman, Whit Merrifield, George Springer, and Bo Bichette.

They won 92 games last season and secured the top Wild Card spot in the American League.

However, they fell short in the Wild Card series against the Seattle Mariners.
