If the New York Mets can not come to an agreement with Jacob deGrom on a new contract, their offseason will get quite interesting.
DeGrom has been one of the best pitchers in baseball when healthy over his career.
But, the issue of late has been that deGrom can never get on the field.
Even so, if their ace leaves, the Mets will need to replace him.
Here are two players the Mets should sign if they lose deGrom.
Charles Rodon
One thing the Mets could do if they lose an ace is go sign another one.
Left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodon can be a number-one starter on most teams in baseball.
With the San Francisco Giants, this past season Rodon posted a 2.88 ERA and had 237 strikeouts in 178.0 innings.

Looking at the Mets’ rotation they could use a left-handed starter.
Max Scherzer is the only established starter in their rotation and New York needs to add more depth.
Chris Bassett
The Mets can always go back to a familiar name when looking to replace deGrom.
Right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt pitched all of last season for the Mets and he was very good.
As Bassitt heads to free agency he will be seeking a contract north of $20 million per year.
Chris Bassitt will decline his $19M mutual option as has been long suspected. In line for a multiyear deal, at that rate and likely more.

The Mets have the money to bring Bassitt back and they should look into doing that.
Their starting rotation was one of their strong suits in 2022, and they need those same arms to be good again next season.
While Bassitt is nowhere as good as deGrom, he would as least dampen the pain of letting the former Cy Young winner walk.
